So we finished what we set out to do: a calvary for the church in Slavonin plus two extra paintings to be placed in the church. But does it it stop here?
Three kilometers from Slavonin there is a small village called Nemilany and in it there is a tiny chapel in which is a painting of the Pieta in a deplorable state. If we maybe could… paint a new Pieta and furthermore they wanted to replace the faces on the picture by two people the parish wants to commemorate and honour. For Mary we got a picture of a woman from the local community who distinguished herself by being very dedicated and caring. For Christ they wanted to use the face of a priest from Dub nad Moravou (for their portraits, see photos of “the woman and the priest”). On top of that, we got the request to give expression that he was killed by an axe to his head.

Dokončili jsme, co jsme si předsevzali: křížovou cestu pro kostel ve Slavoníně a navíc dva obrazy, které budou umístěny v kostele. Znamená to konec projektu?
Tři kilometry od Slavonína je malá obec Nemilany s kapličkou, kde je umístěn jeden obraz z cyklu křížové cesty v žalostném stavu. Takže možná bychom mohli… namalovat novou pietu a dokonce nahradit obličeje na obraze portréty dvou osob, které chce farnost připomenout a uctít. Tvář Marii propůjčila místní farnice Anna Jelínková, která byla výjimečně obětavou a pečující ženou. Pro Krista chtěla farnost použít podobiznu faráře Cyrila Vrbíka z Dubu nad Moravou (viz fotografie „žena a farář“). Navíc jsme byli požádáni, abychom vyjádřili, že páter Vrbík byl zavražděn úderem sekyry do hlavy.

To regenerate for the last two big paintings, we had a relaxing weekend. On Saturday, we walked to Sternberk. Today we saw an exhibition about the number 8 in Czech history and again we had an opportunity to meet more people from the parish at a nice barbeque party with a lot of good meat and a lot of songs.

Abychom se zregenerovali na dvě závěrečné velké malby, o tomto víkendu jsme relaxovali. V sobotu jsme šli do Šternberka a dnes jsme navštívili výstavu o osudových osmičkách v českých dějinách. Měli jsme také další příležitost se setkat s dalšími lidmi z farnosti. Zorganizovali pro nás grilování se spoustou dobrého masa a spoustou písniček.

Dobrý večer,
dnes jsme opět navštívili výtvarníky, abychom zachytili vzácné momenty při práci, kterou hned tak neuvidíme. Znovu žasneme nad lehkostí a stylem práce, kdy dva lidé současně malují jeden obraz. Oba mají stejný cit pro barvy i pojetí jako umělecká dvojčata. Aniž by se předem domlouvali, navzájem se doplňují a střídají, takře podle jejich vlastních slov, nemohou ani sami určit, co přesně který z nich namaloval. Jejich štětce se stále na ploše průběžně potkávají a barvy prolínají. Nevídanou rychlostí vzniká před očima užaslého pozorovatele nový obraz. Scény na obrazech, např. Druhý Kristův pád, nebo Ježíšovo umírání na kříži, jsou viděny oproti jiným křížovým cestám nezvykle a na první pohled tím každého zaujmou.

Good evening,
Today we visited again the artists to capture the precious moments of their work which is something that can't be seen every day. We are amazed by the lightness and the style of their work, when two people paint one picture at the same time. Both have the same sense for colours and style like artistic twins. Without talking, they complement each other. As they say, they are not able to tell who painted what. Their brushes meet on the panel all the time, their colours mingling. An amazed viewer can witness a picture being created in an incredible speed. Compared to other Stations of the Cross, the depicted scenes, for instance the Second Christ's Fall or Jesus Dying on a Cross are captured in an unusual way and drive everybody's attention.

We have made it!!! Fourteen stations are finished. Here we are bringing the first reaction to our request: the priest.

Dokázali jsme to!!! Čtrnáct zastavení je hotovo. Přinášíme vám první reakci na náš dotaz: pan farář.

With joy, I have been following the spontaneous engagement of the parish members as well as non-believers who were not interested in the church and its activities in the past. A partnership among the community, municipality and the region has been established, contributing to the good cause. Due to the friendliness of both painters, people are overcoming the barriers and take the pleasure to visit them repeatedly. I am glad that the interpretation is approachable and easy to understand for everyone. It unites educated as well as common people. Personally, what I find interesting is the painting of the third Christ's fall. Despite of falling, Jesus still holds his cross and does not throw it away.
The positive interest of the public resulted in the willingness to support the project financially. Today we can proudly announce that all the Stations of the Cross have their donor. Every other eventual donor who wants to contribute to the development of the neighborhood is cordially welcomed and will be mentioned as a sponsor of the large painting of the Gethsemane.
From the stories of the local inhabitants I learnt that the Slavonin forefathers were very hard-working and modest people. They were working mostly in the army dragoon stables, taking care of almost 2 thousand horses. This was not only their means of living but they used the money to make contributions to the church and the parish. Both buildings are nowadays under monumental protection.

S radostí sleduji spontánní angažovanost farníků i lidí nevěřících, kteří se o kostel a dění kolem nezajímali. Vzniká společenství v rámci obce, města, kraje, které napomáhá dobré věci. Díky vstřícnosti a vlídnosti obou malířů se lidé osmělují, překonávají jazykové bariéry a opakovaně se rádi vracejí, aby se potěšili. Mám radost, že ztvárnění díla je srozumitelné a přijatelné pro všechny. Sdružuje vzdělané i prosté lidi. Velmi mě zaujal obraz třetího Kristova pádu, kdy Ježíš padl, ale kříž drží dál, neodhodil jej.
Pozitivní zájem veřejnosti se projevil v ochotě finančně podpořit projekt. Dnes můžeme s radostí říci, že všechna zastavení křížové cesty mají svého dárce. Každý další případný dárce, který by chtěl přispět k zvelebení okolí, je srdečně vítán a bude uveden jako sponzor u velkého obrazu Getseman.
Z vyprávění starousedlíků jsem se dověděl, že slavonínští předkové byli velmi usilovní, pracovití a skromní lidé. Pomáhali např. ve vojenských stájích dragounů, kde bylo ustájeno až 2 000 koní.Tím získali možnost dalšího zdroje obživy a z takto vydělaných peněz také významně přispívali na kostel a faru. Celý objekt je dnes chráněn Ústavem památkové péče.

We are approaching the end of the series of fourteen so it seems we can permit ourselves a free weekend before we start to work on the two big paintings. In the evening, the local parish members made another splendid dinner at the parish. We used this opportunity and offered this weblog space also to the people of Slavonin so maybe you will not hear only from us in the near future. Finally we could get to know the priest a bit better and listen to his numerous funny stories. We have also learnt that, beside all the local donors, one Station was adopted by a German community Heimatverband.

Blížíme se ke konci série čtrnácti zastavení, a tak se zdá, že si před prací na dvou velkých obrazech budeme moci dovolit volný víkend. Večer pro nás místní farníci uspořádali další z vynikajících večeří. Využili jsme příležitosti a nabídli lidem ze Slavonína prostor na tomto blogu, takže je možné, že v blízké budoucnosti nebudeme jedinými autory pouze my. Konečně jsme mohli poznat lépe pana faráře a poslechnout si jeho nesčetné zábavné historky. Dozvěděli jsme se také, že kromě místních dárců jedno zastavení adoptoval také německý Vlastenecký svaz.

The priest seems to be alright again. After the mass, he visited us in the gallery with the members of the parish council. As we were told by one of them, “everybody is smiling.” Yesterday, we didn’t bring any news, as the crew members spent the night at the parish where there is no internet. Yesterday it was very cold, luckily we were saved by a bottle of slivovice. Today the weather was a bit better.

Pan farář se zdá být opět v pořádku. Po mši nás navštívil spolu s členy farní rady v galerii. Podle jedné z nich „mají všichni radost.“ Včera jsme na blog nepřinesli žádné zprávy, protože posádka strávila noc na faře, kde není internet. Včera bylo velmi zima, naštěstí nás zachránila láhev slivovice. Dnes bylo počasí o něco lepší.

Today we are half way through, we have started with Station 8. Again a fierce thunderstorm which surprised us working and even forced us to keep on working, otherwise the painting would be washed away. From that reason we don’t have any photo of the phase. The painting will be finished tomorrow.

Dneškem jsme se dostali do poloviny projektu a začali práci na zastavení 8. Opět prudká bouřka, která nás překvapila při práci a dokonce donutila v práci pokračovat, jinak by malbu spláchla voda. Z tohoto důvodu nemáme žádnou fotografii této fáze. Zastavení bude hotovo zítra.

The weather is getting a bit worse but we manage to paint under the tent. Many newspapers published an article today (scroll down) and there was also a TV reportage. After the evening mass, the local people made a magnificent dinner where we could meet some of the sponsors. Coincidentally, the couple became “patrons” of Station 6 “Veronica wipes off Christ’s face” which we finished today. The goulash, vegetables from the garden, as well as salty and sweet pastry were splendid and we are thankful to the ladies who prepared it.
For those of you who want to see our paintings – the solution is close! Most probably they will be displayed in a room on the ground floor of the parish building.

Počasí se poněkud zhoršilo, ale i tak jsme schopni pracovat pod venkovním přístřeškem. Dnes mnohé noviny uveřejnily články (uvidíte je po posunutí stránky dolů) a v televizi proběhla krátká reportáž. Po večerní bohoslužbě uspořádali místí farníci skvělou večeři, kde jsme měli možnost se setkat s některými sponzory. Tento manželský pár se shodou okolností stal „patronem“ zastavení 6 „Veronika otírá Kristovu tvář,“ které jsme dnes dokončili. Guláš, zelenina ze zahrádky, jakož i slané a sladké pečivo, všechno bylo výborné a děkujeme dámám, které vše připravily.
Zpráva pro ty z vás, kteří chtějí vidět naše malby – řešení je blízko! Pravděpodobně budou vystaveny v místnosti v přízemí fary.

Oznámení pro všechny, kdo nás chtějí navštívit a vidět víc, než na čem právě pracujeme: stále se snažíme vyřešit způsob, jak vystavit zastavení, která jsou hotova, v kapličkách. Bez toho bohužel nejsme schopni je každý den vytahovat ven. Jakmile se záležitost vyřeší, budeme vás informovat. Omlouváme se všem, kteří vynaložili úsilí, aby přišli, a neviděli, co chtěli.

More and more visitors coming. In the morning, Rob went to the mass which proved to be no mass as the priest is in hospital for a couple of days. We wish him a fast recovery! Nevertheless, another donor has stood up today.

Máme stale více návštěvníků. Ráno šel Rob na mši, přičemž se ukázalo, že nejde o mši, protože pan farář je na pár dnů v nemocnici. Přejeme mu rychlé uzdravení! Nicméně se dnes přihlásila další sponzorka.

Today there was a big thunderstorm. Luckily, our outdoor studio endured all the water and we could even continue painting. Already a second visitor told us that in the past, there had been Stations of the Cross in the niches around the church. They were painted on zinc and protected by wooden doors. Similarly, the premises of the church had gates on both sides. The calvary was allegedly taken away in 1950’s. The first article was published today in Lidové noviny.

Dnes jsme měli silnou bouřku. Náš venkovní ateliér naštěstí vydržel přívaly vody a my jsme dokonce mohli pokračovat v práci. Již druhý návštěvník potvrdil, že ve výklencích kostelní zdi dříve křížová cesta existovala. Byla namalována na pozinkované plechy a opatřena dřevěnými dvířky. Stejně tak existovaly brány uzavírající přístup na pozemek. Křížová cesta byla údajně odstraněna někdy v 50.letech. Dnes uveřejnily Lidové noviny první článek.

The project has been joined by a restaurator Radek Surma who provided expertise on the paint and materials used and will make the varnish of the paintings once they are dried. Following up yesterday’s press release, the media showed interest, resulting in two photographers coming to Slavonín and a radio interview. Still favoured by local inhabitants.

K projektu se přidal restaurátor Radek Surma, který nejenže poskytl expertízu ohledně nátěrů a použitého materiálu, ale nabídl se také, že po zaschnutí barev opatří zastavení vrstvou ochranného laku. Po včerejší tiskové zprávě se o nás začala zajímat média. Do Slavonína přišli dva fotografové a pro rozhlas vzniklo malé interview. Stále se těšíme přízni místních obyvatel.

The weather is still splendid. We finished Station 1 and started Station 2. Many interested visitors who brought new beer and tasteful pastry. The priest of the church invited his colleagues to visit us, the church and the parish house.

Počasí stále přeje. Dokončili jsme první a začali druhé zastavení. Navštívilo nás několik zájemců o naši práci, od kterých jsme dostali další pivo a chutné pečivo. Pan farář pozval na návštěvu kostela a fary několik kolegů.

On Sunday 3rd August, the actual painting started with Station no.1. To protect ourselves and the painting from the sun, we put up a tent behind the church, where we welcomed the first visitors.

Thanks for the hard work of people from Slavonín, all the 16 zinc panels are prepared and ready for the final sketches to be drawn 1:1. As the paintings will be made on zinc panels and should withstand outside conditions, they need a special treatment. TOLLENS coatings provided the project with all the necessary expertise and material to prepare the panels. In the coming week, the final sketches will be transferred to the panels.

We are very proud and happy to announce that the Olomouc photographer Milena Valušková has promised to document the project: “This is a very good idea and I would like to take part in it.”

With the actual painting at the brink of its starting, sponsoring seems to be well on its way. Besides all the other donations, already 4 complete stations have been adopted by various people. Stay tuned in for more.

Díky usilovné práci dobrovolníků ze Slavonína je všech 16 panelů připraveno k překreslení skic v měřítku 1:1, které proběhne v tomto týdnu. Jednotlivé malby budou provedeny na zinkových panelech a zároveň budou vystaveny povětrnostním podmínkám, a proto panely vyžadují speciální přípravu. Firma TOLLENS vyrábějící nátěrové hmoty poskytla nezbytnou expertízu a materiál na přípravu panelů.

S radostí oznamujeme, že olomoucká fotografka Milena Valušková přislíbila pořídit z projektu dokumentaci. „Je to výborný nápad a chtěla bych se do něj zapojit.“

S tím jak se samotné malování blíží, postupuje dobře i sponzorování. Kromě dalších příspěvků byla již 4 zastavení adoptována soukromými osobami. Sledujte naše další zprávy.

ÚVOD

Obrázky na tomto weblogu uvidíte posunem stránky dolů.

Nejdříve uvidíte definitivní skici čtrnácti zastavení a dvě další malby, které budou umístěny uvnitř vchodu do kostela. Definitivní skici budou sloužit jako základní kresby pro malby samotné.

Je tedy možné, že budou v průběhu malování dále upravovány. Poté narazíte na skici, které vznikly před definitivními skicami. Nejsou zdaleka dokončené a jsou umístěny ve více méně náhodném pořadí, abyste získali představu o pracovním procesu.

Na závěr naleznete výsledky publicity v tisku, přičemž většina z nich je také přeložena do angličtiny, stejně jako další informace, které jsou pro projekt důležité.

INTRODUCTION

The pictures on this weblog can be seen only by scrolling down.

First you will encounter the definitive sketches for the fourteen stations as well as two extra paintings which will be placed inside the entrance of the church.
The defintive sketches will serve as the basic drawings for the paintings themselfs. Thus they will still be subject to further alterations which come up in the proces of painting.

After those you will encounter the sketches we made to come to the definitive sketches. They are far from complete and are placed more or less at random just to give you an impression of the working proces.

Finally you will find the results of the media coverage, most of them also in an English translation, as well as other information which are of importance to the project.
